Modified with special railway wheels, this version was designed to patrol and protect rail lines, particularly in the Balkans where Italian forces used armored cars to guard against sabotage and partisan attacks. The AB 40 retained its armored hull, dual driving positions, and machine-gun armament while gaining the ability to operate directly on railroad tracks.
