Based on the Panzer IV chassis, it was equipped with a fully enclosed, six-sided turret housing a powerful 3.7 cm FlaK 43 anti-aircraft cannon. Designed to provide mobile air defense for ground units, the Ostwind offered better crew protection compared to its predecessor, the Wirbelwind. Although its production was limited due to material shortages and the late stage of the war, the Ostwind proved effective against low-flying aircraft and lightly armored ground targets.
