The Belgian Gate, also called the Cointet-element, was a large steel anti-tank barrier on rollers developed in the 1930s for French and Belgian defenses. During World War II, the Germans placed them along the Atlantic Wall, including the beaches of Normandy, to block Allied landing craft. On D-Day, Allied demolition teams destroyed or cleared many of them to allow the landings to proceed.
